Guru for Life Kimonos

Why Guru…

Guru practices fair trade principles and is committed to creating clothing in an ethical manner. We are a different kind of fashion business giving our customers an alternative to fast fashion.

Guru collaborates with local artisans in Rajasthan from design to handmade production. We have worked in India for almost 2 decades with family run businesses.

Guru’s Eco Wear Collection uses exquisite repurposed Indian saris. We team up with skilled tailors who cut each piece by hand, one at a time. The garments are created to be as striking possible. This is done by the way they place the borders and Pallu (the loose end of the Sari) when cutting the fabric.

Guru’s Fashion Collection is known for its prints and unique designs. While we aim to keep on-trend we endeavour to stay with our roots and maintain an original look and feel.

Guru is recognized as the original designer of the Multi Wear Skirt. This versatile, eco-friendly, stunning skirt is made from repurposed saris. They can be transformed into 100 different styles. Whatever your whim…dress, tunic, top, vest, you can style it to suit yourself!

Guru was founded by Kathryn Boese 17 years ago with the expressed desire to create apparel to fit Canadian women and to work with small independent Indian & Nepali businesses. It continues to be her passion to uphold fair trade practices and ensure opportunities to positively impact lives. As a priority, over the years, we focused on the production of slow fashion.

Remember… the fast fashion industry is fuelled by insatiable demand for cheap clothing and accessories. Fast fashion has a devastating impact from sweatshops and child labour to pollution and global warming.

Slow Fashion means standing up against exploitation, family separation, slum cities and pollution.
